Wrapping Instructions for your New Hoop This procedure is recommended for all hoops, as it prevents creases in the fabric and reduces slip while stitching. It takes a bit of time, but if done correctly, it should hold for a long time to come. You may choose to wrap BOTH the inner ring as well as the outer ring, as long as there is enough clearance in the screw mechanism. (Wrapping the rings will slightly increase their diameter, thus affecting overall size.) Most all hoops can tolerate the wrapping of, at least, the inner ring. Starting with the inner ring, hold the beginning of the twill tape against the INSIDE of the ring. Begin to wrap the tape TIGHTLY, around and around, overlapping the tape by ½. Keep hanging onto the beginning end until you are sure it is all right to let it go. Continue wrapping until you are around the entire circumference and back at the "beginning." Finish the tape, again on the INSIDE of the ring. Leave enough to fold the raw end under ¼". Fold the raw end under and secure it with a needle and thread. Ta Da!! Note that the "lump" from the beginning and ending of the tape is on the INSIDE of the ring and will not interfere with the smoothness of the "gripping" edges of the hoop (where the fabric is held taut). If you decide to also wrap the outer ring, you will start the twill tape on the OUTSIDE of the ring, right next to the screw mechanism, and begin wrapping. Since you will not be able to return to this exact spot (because the brass hardware is in the way), you will have to secure it with needle and threat as soon as you are comfortably able. Continue to wrap around the opposite side (overlapping by ½ again), and end in the opposite side of the screw mechanism (on the OUTSIDE of the ring). Fold under the raw end, and secure with needle and thread. Again, by having the tape begin and end on the OUTSIDE of the OUTER RING, it will not interfere with the gripping edges of the hoop. |
